Show Your Pet Some Love This Valentine's Day

You can't share a box of chocolates, but we've got the next best thing!

Valentine’s day is just around the corner, red wine and chocolates are getting the prime spot in every store, and all the decor is turning red and pink. This holiday can create some real curmudgeons out of those rocking the single life, but if you find yourself without an amore this February 14th, never fear! Here are some ways to celebrate Valentine’s day with your furry soulmate.

Make Some Sweet Treats

Whip up a simple, DIY dog treat recipe with a Valentine’s twist using a heart-shaped mold. Consider this tasty frozen yogurt snack! All you’ll need is peanut butter and greek yogurt. Put a thin layer of peanut butter in the bottom of the mold, then fill the rest with greek yogurt. Leave them in the freezer until they’re solid, and you’ll have a long lasting treat your dog can’t get enough of! For a little extra holiday theming, finely dice some strawberries to add in with the yogurt. Fresh fruits are a great snack for your pup, packed with vitamins…and love!

Chocolate Box Treat Hunt

Did you get one of those classic heart-shaped boxes full of individual chocolates? You might think you’ll just end up throwing out the empty package, but you don’t have to yet! Once you’re done with your treat, you can repurpose it for your pet. That plastic liner with all the little divots makes a perfect puzzle feeder. Just put a couple treats into each cup, close up the box, and let them go wild. For an extra challenge, use sticky treats like peanut butter, or add in some crumpled paper for them to dig through. The best part? This trick is both dog- and cat-friendly!

Note: make sure to clean out the package to get rid of any crumbs of chocolate that might be left when you’re done!

Go For a Long Walk on the Beach

Ok, you could go to the park, or a nature trail, or even just around your neighborhood–your pup will love it no matter what! A special adventure in a new place (with new stuff to sniff!) is the ultimate declaration of love for a dog. To celebrate, try out a new route for your daily walk! Go somewhere like a dog park, where your pup can sniff out loads of new smells, and maybe even make a new friend. Take an extra-long stroll, and spend some time letting your pup smell the flowers.

Make it a Movie Night

Not every date has to be a night out, right? Give your pet a little extra love by queueing up a rom-com (or a whole Hallmark movie marathon!) and having a cuddle session on the couch. Spending time relaxing with your pets is super important to their mental health and social wellbeing–and it’s good for yours too. So pop some popcorn and get to snuggling!
